Project Pluralist Resources
Objective of the Project
This project aims to build a public repository of resources to support students and scholars in learning pluralist economics. The repository includes databases of various forms of resources including books, articles, videos, lectures, interviews and podcasts. The main focus is on works either oriented towards global south contexts or by scholars from the global south. Our team constantly updates the repository with new resources collated from various sources.
The latest curations from the team can be accessed here.
What is Pluralist Economics?
Pluralism, in contrast to mainstream economics, recognises and teaches a range of different approaches to understand the economy and its interaction with wider social and political systems in a reflective and engaging manner. Following from the 3 P’s of Pluralism (Pluralism Theory; Pluralism of Method, and Interdisciplinary Pluralism), iterated in the ISIPE open letter, the Rethinking Economics movement hopes to build a space where a representative and comprehensive economics education can promote a balanced exposure to a variety of perspectives that cover not only the mainstream, neo-classical models but also marginalised, excluded or overlooked schools of thought. As a movement to build better economics in society and classrooms, RE India aims to become a medium of advocating pluralism in the academic and policy space of economics.
This project aims to build a public repository of resources to support students and researchers to learn more about pluralist economics. The repository includes various resource formats such as books, articles, videos, lectures, interviews, websites, podcasts, etc. The main focus is on works either oriented towards global south contexts or by scholars from the global south. Our team constantly updates the repository with new resources collated from various sources.
REIN Pluralist Database complements repositories and reading lists curated by other resources groups and forums such as Exploring Economics, D-Econ, AHE, Heterodox Economics Repository by keeping the focus on works by global south scholars and/or on global south context. We encourage you to keep a tab of all these repositories for a holistic understanding.

A few important considerations:
-
We function under a disciplinary anchor. In the process of suggesting to us a resource for publishing, kindly check if it interfaces with the economy and provides economic knowledge. The resource can approach an economic issue or school of thought from a multiplicity of points of view but should, nevertheless, be a topic, method or theory that is related to an economic phenomenon, problem(s), practice(s), structure(s), and system(s), whether in existence currently or a part of the past or the future.
-
We want to explicitly showcase resources originating from authors belonging to the Global South. This would mean that we are actively looking for perspectives and topics that focus on the Global South or countries/issues in the Global South. We are also on a constant lookout for material authored/created by indigenous people and people of colour and, hence, are striving to go beyond topical areas to find resources authored/created by people of colour and indigenous people. The aim of this resource database is to educate. We also understand that narratives matter, but please do not suggest resources that are casteist, racist, sexist or are written/created by problematic authors/creators as alternatives to these resources are always available.
